Lisa Laprade

Senior Designer

I grew up in a vibrant college town in Western Massachusetts, surrounded by a community of creatives and scholars. My childhood was deeply influenced by strong women who balanced careers and family life, as well as by visits to fabric mill outlets with my mother, which ignited my passion for fashion, fabrics, patterns, and color. My journey has been marked by a love for music, art, and travel, which taught me to listen, see, and explore the world in unique ways.

After 20 years in various roles across retail, decorating, and designing my own home, I felt the need for a career that was more creatively fulfilling and impactful. This led me to pursue graduate studies in architecture and interior design at UMASS Amherst in my mid-30s. There, I found my true passion. My professors encouraged me to observe the world as a source of inspiration, to be patient in the design process, and to ensure that every decision has a clear purpose.

In addition to my professional work, I volunteer my design services for Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, driven by the belief that well-designed homes should be accessible to all budgets. I strive to create designs that not only address complex challenges but also positively impact people’s lives. My approach is collaborative, working closely with homeowners to draw from their personal interests, cultural and ethnic influences, and functional needs. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that every space I design feels like a true reflection of the people who live there.
